On November 2, 2023, Forward Food and Simon Fraser University, as part of the university’s Roots initiative, is hosting a plant-based summit in Burnaby, BC.

This event will bring together individuals from the foodservice industry and provide them space to network and learn about the many benefits of local and plant-based foods and how they can effectively incorporate more of them into their menus. You can find more information here. The summit will feature:

  • Speakers and panels on plant-based foods and their social, health and environmental benefits, industry trends, and innovative ideas. The keynote speaker will be Brent Loken, PhD, Global Food Lead Scientist at WWF and lead author on the EAT Lancet report on Food, Planet, Health
  • Plant-based food demonstrations
  • A tradeshow featuring plant-based brands and products
  • A light plant-based breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks
  • Networking opportunities and a Forward Food pledge signing ceremony, to facilitate collaboration and garner commitments to build a better food system together

In order to maximize opportunities for participation, this event is free, with exception for Eventbrite fees and a nominal charge that will be donated to the SFU food bank. If this donation is a barrier to your participation in the summit, please contact forwardfoodcanada@hsi.org.

This summit follows a plant-based culinary training on November 1 for select local chefs and food service professionals. Please note that registration for the summit on November 2 does not guarantee a spot in the November 1 culinary training. If you are interested in taking part in the training, please contact Makayla Dewit at mdewit@hsi.org.
